Lesson 99. Salvation is my only function here (ACIM, W-99). Yesterday: Again, I felt awkward pausing for five minutes whilst working (even if I was not being observed) and I also became too aware of my timer going off which is the best way I know of remembering. And while the lesson was about playing our part in God’s plan for salvation, I feel that ‘salvation’ is still a term I don’t feel comfortable with. We are asked, though, to practise regardless of how we feel and this is what I tried to do. Today: This lesson tells us that salvation and forgiveness are both the same, and this allows me to see this lesson in a different light. I now feel that salvation means that nothing has happened and I am just re-training my mind.
As you come closer to a brother you approach me, and as you withdraw from him I become distant to you. Salvation is a collaborative venture. It cannot be undertaken successfully by those who disengage themselves from the Sonship, because they are disengaging themselves from me. (ACIM, T-4.VI.8:1-3)
We have to believe in Jesus, the Voice of A Course in Miracles, and we have to trust in the Holy Spirit, the Voice for God.
The Jesus of A Course in Miracles isn’t the Jesus from the New Testament who died for our sins. He is a man from 2,000 years ago who knew that we are all the collective one Son of God. He saw that our minds make our reality. And he also knew that if we change our minds then we change the world.
Sin is therefore what A Course in Miracles defines as a ‘mistake’, and Jesus ‘died’ to show us that peace always wins and only the resurrection is of any significance.
The Holy Spirit is what we are; we are peace, light and love, and this is exactly what the Holy Spirit Is. And this is why we have been given the Workbook. We simply need to change our minds.
Eternal peace is not found through worshipping deities or idolising figures. It is only known through the inner search. And this is why any lesson in the Workbook will always prompt us to go inside.
100/ Inner Knowing

Lesson 100. My part is essential to God’s plan for salvation (ACIM, W-100). Yesterday: I do remember that, from about 6pm last night, I was caught up in something and forgot all about the lesson until much later. I also tried my best earlier in the day and it helped knowing that salvation is just another word for forgiveness. I feel that we are all returning back to the Beginning. Today: This lesson states that our part in salvation is to be happy and it is my Self that is calling to me. These are helpful concepts to bear in mind as I start my practice.
God created every mind by communicating His Mind to it, thus establishing it forever as a channel for the reception of His Mind and Will. Since only beings of a like order can truly communicate, His creations naturally communicate with Him and like Him. (ACIM, T-4.VII.3:7-8)
Within us all is the Holy Spirit. This is an inner knowing that can’t be shifted.
A Course in Miracles is the path back to oneness. The miracle highlights our unity with God and is always ready and willing to light up the mind. But we have to allow this to happen.
The ego is a simple thought of separation. It is a dream and an hallucination. Look at our nighttime dreams and we see exactly what our daytime dreams are like. Good or bad, they are all the same.
The ego always speaks first. It is loud and defensive because it has to be. However, without our strong support, it would totally disappear. In truth, the ego doesn’t mean anything and is nothing.
Deep within us, then, and covered up by layers of hurt and angst, we know the truth. It is always there and it never leaves us. To know the truth is as simple as seeing a candle glowing in the dark.
When we focus on our inner light, then we have an inner knowing. It is pure and peaceful, and always enables us to know that we are whole and not a part.

“Even if I knew that tomorrow the world would go to pieces, I would still plant my apple tree.” Martin Luther King Jr.
The world becomes a place of hope, because its only purpose is to be a place where hope of happiness can be fulfilled. (ACIM, T-30.V.2:7)
***
Lesson 101. God’s Will for me is perfect happiness (ACIM, W-101). Yesterday: Had a nice day, buying plants from a garden centre and making the garden more colourful, ready for spring. In the evening, I was half-listening to an interview with an ACIM/Gestalt/yoga therapist and felt an extraordinary reluctance to go into my own bodily feelings. This unnerved me and it was how I woke up this morning. But then I had a realisation that beyond the body is nothing, and the body is just a bunch of thoughts in the mind. This was more settling. Today: The lesson has a strong emphasis on the non-existence of sin. This comes as more of a relief than anything, but the subtext is always there. Deep within the mind, I do feel doubtful about the absence of sin.
The Holy Spirit is the Christ Mind which is aware of the knowledge that lies beyond perception. He came into being with the separation as a protection, inspiring the Atonement principle at the same time. Before that there was no need to healing, for no one was comfortless. (ACIM, T-5.I.5:1-3)
Jesus tells us from within A Course in Miracles that his right thinking came through the Holy Spirit, and that this experience is for all (ACIM, T-5.I.4:6).
To ‘inspire’ means being ‘in spirit’ and this becomes our purpose while we are in a body. Can we rise above the relentless barrage of judgements that the ego throws at us in every moment of the day?
The ego and the Holy Spirit are wholly incompatible. There can be no relationship as far as these two are concerned although, in truth, there is only One. We are just imagining there is a second.
The goal of A Course in Miracles is always to have a peaceful mind and so, whenever we are not feeling peaceful, we must realise that we just need to practice more forgiveness.
Forgiveness allows us to see, as today’s lesson states, that God’s Will for us is perfect happiness. Whenever we feel ‘inspired’, we can be sure we are in the right mind where love is total and the limitations of two have become the strength of one. This means we are truly alive and living.

Lesson 102. I share God’s Will for happiness for me (ACIM, W-102). Yesterday: Five minutes seemed fine for an hourly practice but I have noticed that sometimes it feels endless - and it is always when my mind believes that something important is going to happen. The ego enjoys making up all sorts of scenarios and this was the gist of how I remember feeling at various times throughout the day. Today: I definitely feel a bit jaded this morning. Have just come for a few days to look after my mother, and this means just getting up a bit earlier with chores to do. However, when I dropped into the theme of the lesson just now (which is happiness), I could sense the happiness bubbling away below the surface.
What happens when we seek external validation? It’s as if we need to rely on someone else’s judgement. We allow others to control our destiny.
A Course in Miracles is the path back to Self-control. It asks us to go inwards, not outwards, and it wants us to choose an option that has always been with us but we have simply forgotten.
The Voice of the Holy Spirit is always quiet - we just deny Its Presence simply because it has nothing to do with the body. However, the Holy Spirit does work through the body allowing other bodies to see us acting in a peaceful and more harmonious way.
The ego continually tries to stop this behaviour because that is its job. Really, though, the ego is just a tyrant and a bully. By standing up to it, we bring justice to the mind.
A Course in Miracles therefore enables us to discipline the mind. ACIM tells us that we either have love or fear, but love is our only reality. As we apply the lessons of the Workbook, we find that the soft Voice of the Holy Spirit usurps the tyrant and gives us all the internal validation that we need.
The Voice of the Holy Spirit does not command, because It is incapable of arrogance. It does not demand, because It does not seek control. It does not overcome, because It does not attack. It merely reminds. (ACIM, T-5.II.7:1-4)

103/ Big and Magnificent

“Being deeply loved gives you strength; loving deeply gives you courage.” Lao Tzu.
Love will enter immediately into any mind that truly wants it, but it must want it truly. (ACIM, T-4.III.4:7)

Lesson 103. God, being Love, is also happiness (ACIM, W-103). Yesterday: The timer on my phone was useful - sometimes it would go off and I would be startled into remembering about my five-minute practice. Then, at about seven o’clock last night, I was already a minute into the practice when my sister quite unexpectedly walked into the kitchen. I opened my eyes and just started talking, pretending that I had been working on my laptop which was open in front of me. I don’t know why I should feel so guilty about meditating? Today: Essentially, this lesson is telling me that, if I am afraid of God, then I am afraid of joy. Joy equals love equals happiness. Basically, we are all having to manufacture our own happiness because we have a split mind.
I have assured you that the Mind that decided for me is also in you, and that you can let it change you just as it changed me. This Mind is unequivocal, because it hears only one Voice and answers in only one way. You are the light of the world with me. (ACIM, T-5.II.10:1-3)
Jesus is reminding us that rest does not come from sleeping but from waking (ACIM, T-5.II.10:4). This is a key line within A Course in Miracles.
As we awaken, we then remember what we are and not what we are dreaming. The dream is gone.
We see that we are the light of the world and the one Self. God only Is and there is no other.
The mind is at completely at ease within the Mind of Peace, and there is no contradiction to this ease at all. Light outshines darkness and its only purpose is to extend and extend and extend.
Clearly, we don’t believe this but it is just an imagined doubt. We are told that we can easily see through the clouds to the sky above.
A Course in Miracles therefore shows us the process by which we stop seeing ourselves as small and start to see ourselves as big. We stop feeling insignificant and start to become magnificent instead.

104/ Light Is our Home
6th February 2025
“There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.” Edith Wharton.
You can make darkness and then think you see in it, but light reflects life, and is therefore an aspect of creation. (ACIM, W-44.1:3)
***
Lesson 104. I seek but what belongs to me in truth (ACIM, W-104). Yesterday: I feel that I did justice to each of the five-minute practice periods and this was probably because, when the timer did go off, I didn’t have two eyes staring back at me and I always seemed to be at the end of a chore that I was doing. However, in the evening I did enjoy a drink or two just prior to supper and things seemed to get a bit hazy. Today: It’s amazing how analytical the ego becomes whenever I want to sit still. This lesson relates to connecting with God’s gifts that are always with us and, although I have often thanked God for them, I still found a background voice dissecting exactly what they could be.
Understanding is light, and light leads to knowledge. The Holy Spirit is in light because He is in you who are light, but you yourself do not know this. It is therefore the task of the Holy Spirit to reinterpret you on behalf of God. (ACIM, T-5.III.7:5-7)
A Course in Miracles is very clear. There is no darkness. Darkness is always a product of the mind.
The ego is that darkness and arose only as a response to a thought of separation. The point of the ego is to block out the light and it’s become a belief that we have established as the truth. The paradox, however, is that we are not the body and that what we really are is a single being of light.
The near-death experience can also demonstrate this very clearly. It shows us that, as the body recedes, the spirit returns to its Source. Our awareness of God is always within our minds, and this is why we all inwardly know that the world can never be our home.
Below is a compilation of near-death experiences that looks at how we merge with the light. Light is what we are and light is what we return to. It is why we all tend to have a homesickness, even if it is sublimely. The body holds us in darkness but, as the mind awakens, we get a sense of our loving Self.

105/ Peace Is our Purpose
7th February 2025
“It is not uncommon for people to spend their whole life waiting to start living.” Eckhart Tolle.
Everything is accomplished through life, and life is of the mind and in the mind. (ACIM, T-6.V-A.1:3)
***
Lesson 105. God’s peace and joy are mine (ACIM, W-105). Yesterday: Again, and like the day before, the timer would go off and I would respond with a few minutes of practice. I would also repeat the lesson in between those formal practices but my resolve did recede as the evening set in. A good metaphor is that I allowed the darkness of the mind to smother the light. Today: The theme of this lesson is that giving a blessing is receiving a blessing and this is the law of creation. My first five-minute practice started well but then dissolved into some sort of mental argument as a result of a television programme I half-watched last night. When I realised what was happening, I immediately sent out blessings to the characters I was thinking of.
The goal of A Course in Miracles is peace. This is its only purpose.
Nothing else matters because there is nothing else. If we think there is, then we are delusional.
Whenever we don’t feel peaceful, then we are using a thought system that advocates judgement, and judgement always arises from a lack of peace. If we want to continue judging, then the mind can never know peace.
We only have two systems of thought. One arises through an inner sense of abandonment and fear, and the other arises from the purity of peace and nothing else. One always negates the other.
This means we either listen to the ego or to the Holy Spirit. It is always a choice whether to do or be.
Listening to the Holy Spirit requires training and practice. This is why A Course in Miracles gives us the Workbook. Other spiritual paths might express it differently but really we are looking towards the peace in our minds. Peace needs to be our only purpose.
Peace is the ego’s greatest enemy because, according to its interpretation of reality, war is the guarantee of its survival. The ego becomes strong in strife. If you believe there is strife you will react viciously, because the idea of danger has entered your mind. (ACIM, T-5.III.8:7-9)

106/ Nothing but Now
8th February 2025
“You don’t live in a world all alone. Your brothers are here too.” Albert Schweitzer.
Your worth is beyond perception because it is beyond doubt. Do not perceive yourself in different lights. (ACIM, T-3.V.10:7-8)
***
Lesson 106. Let me be still and listen to the truth (ACIM, W-106). Yesterday: The timer went off (yet again) as I was en-route back from my mother’s and I was able to pull over into a layby on the side of the dual carriageway. I was quite pleased about my perseverance but it does make me reflect how easy it is to forget about the lesson for large parts of the day. Today: My first impression when I sat with this lesson was how noisy my mind was. We are asked to be still and then to repeat the question: “What does it mean to give and to receive?” I didn’t get the answer but I did hear a lot of background chatter.
Truth is beyond your ability to destroy, but entirely within your ability to accept. It belongs to you because, as an extension of God, you created it with Him. It is yours because it is part of you, just as you are part of God because He created you. (ACIM, T-5.IV.1:4-6)
A Course in Miracles is reminding us that truth is with us always. It never goes away. Truth is always just awaiting our attention.
Truth won’t come to us at some future date - that is impossible - and can only be found in the now. There is no other time but now although, in truth, there is actually no time at all.
We therefore have to put all the ego’s logic aside and settle for this present moment. This is also called the holy instant and it is only here that the Voice for God can communicate to us directly.
It is also in this moment that the ego is laid aside completely, in the sense that it does not exist at all. Our identity as a body has also gone. This mind is simply immersed in both love and gratitude.
Be present and we will hear the Voice for God! This is a definitive statement and one that cannot be contradicted. It is the message of today’s lesson and one that we are learning continuously as we go though the Workbook. Nothing else matters because, in truth, there is nothing else.

107/ Perfect as We Are
9th February 2025
“A grateful mind is a great mind which eventually attracts to itself great things.” Plato.
Look with peace upon your brothers, and God will come rushing into your heart in gratitude for your gift to Him. (ACIM, T-10.V.7:7)
***
Lesson 107. Truth will correct all errors in my mind (ACIM, W-107). Yesterday: The lesson was all about being still and listening to truth. For a few of the hourly practices, and especially as the day progressed, I found that it was hard to stop where I was and sit with the idea, but I was still able to apply it as I walked around. I reflected that, since we are spiritual beings having a physical experience, it doesn’t matter what the body is doing. Today: I woke this morning with the same blanket of disturbing thoughts that usually occupy my mind but then had the realisation that I don’t have to listen to them - I can always focus on the truth. And this is the theme of the lesson today. The illusory just disappears when we focus on what is real can never go away.
Physical birth is not a beginning; it is a continuing. Everything that continues has already been born. It will increase as you are willing to return the unhealed part of your mind to the higher part, returning it undivided to creation. (ACIM, T-5.IV.2:4-6)
...and creation proves that giving is receiving. When we give out peace, then that peace is returned to us in ways we could never have imagined. We just feel it doesn’t because we think too much.
- We think we are the body because, when the body hurts, the pain is more real than the peace that lies behind it.
- We think the world is outside of us because, as we see all the suffering in the world, we have no idea that it all comes from deep inside.
- We think our thoughts mean nothing because, if we really stopped to look at all the beliefs that drive our thinking, then we would have to face our deepest fears.
A Course in Miracles merely tells us that, because we think, we are nothing. Our real Self is beyond all thought. And all our thinking is just a veil that stops us knowing how perfect we really are.

108/ The Final Frontier
10th February 2025
“To err is human; to forgive divine.” Alexander Pope.
Others will make mistakes and so will you, as long as this illusion of a world appears to be your home. (ACIM, S-2.I.6:2)
***
Lesson 108. To give and receive are one in truth (ACIM, W-108). Yesterday: Thank goodness for modern technology. It was a Sunday and I had that quiet-yet-distracted state of mind which meant that the timer on my phone was essential for reminding me about the hourly practice. And yet I had to switch it off for a class that I teach at 9am, thinking I would remember an hour later but, as usual, I forgot until a fleeting memory alerted me that it was almost 11am. Today: My first thought when I saw this lesson was “I know this” (as in giving and receiving are the same) but, as I read through the lesson, I realised I didn’t know it at all. There are so many little gems to be learnt, as in how the term true light is a state of mind, and how one wholly unified thought can help to unify all thought; and, of course, behind that one thought is the Thought of God.
The guiltless mind cannot suffer. Being sane, the mind heals the body because it has been healed. The sane mind cannot conceive of illness because it cannot conceive of attacking anyone or anything. (ACIM, T-5.V.5:1-3)
Guilt, the final frontier. Cross the border and we find peace; if we don’t, we just continue to suffer.
A Course in Miracles prepares us to cross the frontier although, in truth, it is telling us that there is no frontier. We are already there. We have never left our own beingness but we just think we have.
The mind seems unaware of the Kingdom of Heaven, which is what we are; it has forgotten that love is infinite and is trying to replicate it; and it has fallen asleep to eternity and is dreaming of time.
Spirit, however, still talks to us continuously and this is because the mind is the receptor of spirit. The amnesia, though, was caused by a thought of guilt and it is this that we feel we have to obey.
The thought of guilt is the ego and it warns us that hell is our reward and that a state of heaven is only achievable if we worship worship at its shrine. The final frontier is therefore the point at which the ego just ceases and all the guilt has merely gone away.

109/ Healing the Error
11th February 2025
“You are the sky. Everything else - it’s just the weather.” Pema Chödrön.
Your Self-fullness is as boundless as God’s. Like His, It extends forever and in perfect peace. (ACIM, T-7.IX.6:7-8)
***
Lesson 109. I rest in God (ACIM, W-109). Yesterday: The theme of the lesson related to the perfect symmetry of giving and receiving, meaning that the offering of a peaceful thought always guarantees the exact same in return. It was a lovely practice and one I have heard many times, particularly from Cate Grieves who teaches ACIM on YouTube. Today: To have a lesson which simply asks that we “rest in God” seemed pleasingly simple. However, my first practice was not successful. For a while, I was inwardly witnessing an argument between a couple I barely know and later I was having a discussion with someone I have never physically met. It felt crazy and it was crazy. When I opened my eyes, I realised I had spent most of my time being a pawn of the ego.
The Holy Spirit and the ego are the only choices open to you. God created one, and so you cannot eradicate it. You made the other, and so you can. Only what God creates is irreversible and unchangeable. (ACIM, T-5.V.6:8-11)
A Course in Miracles reminds us of the error. It’s that we think we are a piece but instead we are the whole.
God did not create the body and neither did God create the world. The broken pieces are merely fabricated by a mind that is split, and it is this split in the mind that makes the error real.
The split mind now has two thought systems and only one can know the truth. The truth is that God created just the one Son and this is what we are, both individually and as a whole.
It also means that, by following the process of forgiveness, it becomes inevitable that we will make our way back to the purest feeling of peace and love and joy. To not feel this is the error.
We therefore have to see the totality in every little piece, so that what is broken can be healed.
And we heal the error only when all the pieces fit together and we know we're one and whole.

110/ Total Presence
12th February 2025
“If there’s life on other planets, then the earth is the universe’s insane asylum.” Voltaire.
This is an insane world, and do not underestimate the extent of its insanity. (ACIM, T-14.I.2:6)
***
Lesson 110. I am as God created me (ACIM, W-110). Yesterday: The lesson asked that we repeat “I rest in God”. However, because I was quite busy during the day, the time I spent with the lesson did seem rather limited. And while I tried to repeat the idea as much as I could in between the practices, what I was saying just didn’t seem to stimulate me. Today: This lesson asks us to find our true Self. It states that, by doing this lesson properly, we can heal the mind. I prefer this particular lesson to the one I did yesterday and am not sure exactly why. Maybe it touches my spirit a little more and I can relate to how it states that we are all God’s Son?
Guilt feelings are the preservers of time. They induce fears of retaliation or abandonment, and thus ensure that the future will be like the past. This is the ego’s continuity. It gives the ego a false sense of security by believing that you cannot escape from it. But you can and must. (ACIM, T-5.VI.2:1-5)
We have to do our best but there is only now.
There is not some future date in which we will awaken. It can only happen in this present moment.
A Course in Miracles therefore requires total presence. It is a non-dual teaching that actually goes into great detail about the ego but is really telling us that the ego is nothing.
If we are totally present and in the now, the ego would not exist. This is a fact. It is by becoming immersed in the present moment that the thought of fear disintegrates and is replaced with love.
Forgiveness therefore undoes the guilt that keeps us bound to form. It gives the ego no room in which to operate. The mind then becomes gentle and innocent, both spacious and free.
This is the mind that sits quietly within the Mind of God. It is a mind of total presence and is wholly aware that there is only now.

111/ Wonder of Love
13th February 2025
“The limits of the possible can only be defined by going beyond them into the impossible.” Arthur C. Clarke.
The Oneness of the Creator and the creation is your wholeness, your sanity and your limitless power.(ACIM, T-7.VI.10:4)
***
Lesson 111. Review of lessons 91 and 92 (ACIM, W-111). Yesterday: For three hours in the morning, I was in and amongst a Devon hedge trying to trim it down. The lesson sort of passed me by, especially as I was handling an electric hedge cutter and didn’t want to experiment with pain in any way. For the rest of the day, I tried to be more conscientious about practising. Today: It feels a relief to start the review, in the sense that a change is as good as a rest. I have just finished my first practice and am glad that we are being asked to just glance at the lesson every half hour throughout the day. I am resolved to do my best.
Remember that the Holy Spirit is the Communication Link between God the Father and His separated Sons. If you will listen to His Voice you will know that you cannot either hurt or be hurt, and that many need your blessing to help them hear this for themselves. (ACIM, T-6.I.19:1-2)
Love is all there Is and fear is just imagined. Fear is simply an effect of being apart from God. A Course in Miracles tells us repeatedly that the opposite of love does not exist.
A Course in Miracles also tells us that it is not the only path that can lead us back to the Source of Love. It states that everyone is destined to find their way back to God in their own time, although it does remind us that time, like fear, is also just an illusion.
The near-death experience can also express any of the above in many different ways. It provides us with the evidence we need to know that time does disappear after death, and that fear and death are completely intertwined. The NDE also proves that love is ALWAYS all there Is.
Below is a compilation of near-death experiences that touch on the wonder of love. NDEs show us that nothing can compare to this heavenly love and that the body is just a dream. If we feel cut off from the Source of all our joy, then it is no wonder we feel isolated and abandoned, lonely and lost.

112/ Peace inside
14th February 2025
“Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.” Bhagavad Gita.
The ego arose from the separation, and its continued existence depends on your continuing belief in the separation. (ACIM, T-4.III.3:2)
***
Lesson 112. Review of lessons 93 and 94 (ACIM, W-112). Yesterday: I had some gardening work in the morning and so decided to use my EarPod, discretely placing my hat over it, which meant that I could hear the timer going off without the couple who were paying me being aware. I managed to keep to the schedule of half hourly peaks at the lesson and I did the same for the rest of the day. This felt like a miracle in itself. Today: Have just sat with the first part of the review which says that light and joy and peace abide in me. I did not feel this. All I felt was the flow of thought fuelled by the buzz from two cups of tea.
Any split in mind must involve a rejection of part of it, and this is the belief in separation. The Wholeness of God, which is His peace, cannot be appreciated except by a whole mind that recognizes the Wholeness of God’s creation. (ACIM, T-6.II.1:1-2)
A Course in Miracles states that the Holy Spirit extends and the ego projects. Everything that we witness outside in the world is really a response to that.
Projection always involves anger, which is really just another term for fear. The Holy Spirit only extends peace and it’s a peace that never changes. The Holy Spirit might therefore be defined as the peaceful part of the mind.
We need to be the decision maker. Can we drop into the peace or do we let the ego rule our world?
And it is always the Workbook that helps us to set our intention. Its sole purpose is to train the mind.
Right now, it’s early in the morning and the weather outside looks cold and windy. The bare, dark branches of two large sycamores are outlined against the grey, cold sky.
The outside world is a manifestation of an inner condition. Whether we are looking with the ego or with the Holy Spirit, it should always be an instant decision to be completely peaceful inside.
