Reflections 57 to 70
57/ Miracle of Forgiveness
21st December 2024
“Men are not prisoners of fate, but prisoners of their own minds.” Franklin D. Roosevelt.
You who believe there is a little gap between you and your brother, do not see that it is here you are as prisoners in a world perceived to be existing here. (ACIM, T-28.V.7:1)

Lesson 57. Review of lessons 31-35. Yesterday. I pondered each of the five lessons several times throughout the day and what became clear is my continuous choice between sight and vision. Vision is total acceptance of what is while sight is when our eyes only see what is limited. I still see only the form of the body which is why I am glad to have come back to the Workbook. Today. Am I a victim of the world I see? In the past, definitely; in the future, I hope not; right now, I am just trying to comprehend that I can never be a victim of anything in the present moment. Only peace exists and knowing this should enable me to stop taking life so seriously.
The miracle does not restore the truth, the light the veil between has not put out. It merely lifts the veil, and lets the truth shine unencumbered, being what it is. It does not need belief to be itself, for it has been created; so it is. (ACIM, T-29.VIII.5:5-7)
Nothing hides the truth except our own thoughts. Our thoughts make our reality. However, we have no idea that our thoughts shape the world we see, and this is our greatest dilemma.
It is a painful experience to conceive of a world that can hurt and ultimately kill us. As stated in the quote above, the miracle simply lifts the veil of illusion and showers the mind with love.
A miracle is a change of perception, in which the mind suddenly has no opposite. If projection makes perception, then we need to stop projecting out of fear and start perceiving with a mind of love.
There are no problems that the miracle cannot undo because, quite simply, our problems are all the same. As stated at the beginning of the Text, we made up sickness and death ourselves and are therefore equally able to abolish both (ACIM, T-1.I.24:1-4). The miracle establishes that we are NOT the nightmare. Quite simply, it shows us that nothing other than love exists.
A Course in Miracles states that there is only one God and only one Son. This means that we are collectively the Kingdom of Heaven. The miracle demonstrates this temporarily but forgiveness establishes this fact permanently and it does it by healing the one split mind.

“Believe in yourself and all that you are. Know that there is something inside you that is greater than any obstacle.” Christian D. Larson.
You have believed that you are without the Kingdom, and have therefore excluded yourself from it in your belief. (ACIM, T-6.V-C.6:4)

Lesson 58. Review of lessons 36-40. Yesterday. I had a day where I was able to look at the lessons without too many breaks. Equally, when I did close my eyes and was able to let go of the need to rush and get things done, a pleasant understanding of each lesson came through into my mind. Today. Holiness seems to be the theme of this particular review. It tells me that holiness is Who I am. I know by now that my body has nothing to do with anything holy but I still think of it as something important. Bodily needs tend to dominate my mind.
Salvation is a paradox indeed! What could it be except a happy dream? It asks you but that you forgive all things that no one ever did; to overlook what is not there, and not to look upon the unreal as reality. (ACIM, T-30.IV.7:1-3)
God’s Will for us all is perfect happiness. This means always and forever.
It was our will, as the Son of God, to have a momentary thought in which we felt it might be more fun to be outside of Heaven. This thought then materialised into a state of hell.
The state of hell is awful because the Son of God has forgotten that he has thought it up. He has become locked into a dream of fear and has no idea how to awaken from this dream.
Thus, the dream has become a nightmare although the nightmare is merely a fantasy. There is no separation. God provided the solution the moment that the thought was thought.
The mind simply needs to awaken. The state of hell becomes the Kingdom of Heaven as soon as we become so present to God’s solution that all of the nightmare just disappears.
God but ensured that you would never lose your will when He gave you His perfect Answer. Hear it now, that you may be reminded of His Love and learn your will. (ACIM, T-30.II.2:6-7)

Lesson 59. Review of lessons 41-45. Yesterday. Am not sure that I really understood what holiness was - the theme of yesterday’s review. The way I feel about holiness relates too much to the church and dogma. But I did like the final lesson of the review - “I am blessed as a Son of God”. This feels direct and straight to the point. Today. Have just practised the first two lessons. My mind feels cloudy and distracted by Christmas. I feel unorganised, anxious and tired, and this is clearly the insane chatter of the ego at work. The first two lessons basically imply that I am one with God and everything else is just illusory. A veil of illusion has filled my mind.
Your day is not at random. It is set by what you choose to live it with, and how the friend whose counsel you have sought perceives your happiness. (ACIM, T-30.I.15:1-2)
According to A Course in Miracles, we either choose the anti-Christ or the Christ.
The anti-Christ is the ego. It is a mind full of illusions. It is the false identity that we have chosen.
The Christ is the Holy Spirit - our true Identity. Because there is no separation - there is just God and God’s one creation which is formless and only known through vision - we can’t think in opposites. God talks to us through the Holy Spirit and God created us as the Christ.
The Christ was created out of love. To have pain associated with God’s creation is a fabrication of the ego. The ego hates God and God has no idea about the ego. This is because the ego is just a dream.
A dream can conjure up all sort of imagery but also changes to suit the mind of the dreamer. If the dreamer is dreaming of a distorted reality, then so what? True reality is God and true reality has no idea what a dream is. It just waits patiently for the dreamer to return.
We are the dreamer and we are dreaming of a false reality. There is nothing to fear because fear is just part of the dream. Therefore, to awaken, we need the Holy Spirit. This is the only Voice we need to help us awaken from the dream.

Lesson 60. Review of lessons 46-50. Yesterday. God was mentioned in all of the five lessons that I looked at. To summarise, I find that God goes with me wherever I go; God is my strength, my Source, the light in which I see and also the light with which I think. The message is unequivocal. We are all a part of God and we are all God’s Son. Today. I have just spent some time sitting with the first lesson of the review - God is the Love in which I forgive. It states that God does not need to forgive because God has never condemned. This, in itself, is another reason why I am glad to have found A Course in Miracles. It completely reverses everything that I have learned in the past.
The Thought God holds of you is like a star, unchangeable in an eternal sky. So high in Heaven is it set that those outside of Heaven know not it is there. Yet still and white and lovely will it shine through all eternity. (ACIM, T-30.III.8:4-6)
This is a fitting tribute for Christmas Eve. If a shining light in the sky startled the shepherds as they were tending their sheep, so can a shining light startle us into remembering who we are.
We are the light of the world. Our purpose is to enter into that stillness.
Currently, we are caught up in a frenzy of fear. We are demanding to be happy, asserting that happiness is our right as human beings on this planet. And this is true, except for one point; we are not the body. The body is just a shield that prevents us from knowing our own true nature.
Our true nature is love, light and joy. It is perfection. The body could never be perfect, even if we do try to make it so. Only the mind can be perfect and this can only happen when all guilt is healed.
Christmas Eve is simply the dawning of a new state of mind. The moon is bright and the sky is clear.
The star that shone for the shepherds is the same in everyone. It is us and we can only know its essence when we drop into that moment where time stands still.

61/ Celebration of Christmas
25th December 2024
“You are the creator of your own destiny.” Swami Vivekananda.
It is impossible that anything should come to me unbidden by myself. Even in this world, it is I who rule my destiny. (ACIM, W-253.1:1-2)
***
Lesson 61. I am the light of the world. Yesterday. I must admit that I rather gave up on the final review of the lessons in the evening (which basically meant from 5pm when it got dark). One of the lessons asked that I tell myself there is nothing to fear - highly appropriate in my case. And this sums up the goal of A Course in Miracles. It is all or nothing. We either know love totally or not at all. Today. The lesson implies that being the light of world is true humility. This is what we are, not some mixed up mess that looks past the light in order to fund the darkness. Darkness is of the ego and light is of the Holy Spirit. To know one always rejects the other.
The birth of Christ is now, without a past or future. He has come to give His present blessing to the world, restoring it to timelessness and love. And love is ever-present, here and now. (ACIM, W-308.1:6-8)
Every day should be Christmas day. In fact, every second of every day should be the time for Christmas. We need to celebrate what we are and not what we are not
We can’t avoid the fact that we are Christ but it seems that we make every effort to do so. For the ego, Christmas time relates more to self-indulgence and self-glorification; Christmas is about gifts, although the ego feels upset if what it gives isn’t reciprocated.
Being Christ is merely a celebration of love. We see into the mind that has no opposite and is happy.
A Course in Miracles is therefore Jesus’ message to a mind that seems to think it is something else. We are all the one Christ sharing the Self-same love. Jesus wants us to join with this love and to celebrate a new way of being. In other words, Jesus is asking us to simply awaken from the dream.
In this season (Christmas) which celebrates the birth of holiness into this world, join with me who decided for holiness for you. (ACIM, T-15.III.7:1)

62/ The Christ within
26th December 2024
“The world, like a dream full of attachments and aversions, seems real until the awakening.” Adi Shankara.
There is a sense of peace so deep that no dream in this world has ever brought even a dim imagining of what it is. (ACIM, T-13.XI.3:13)

Lesson 62. Forgiveness is my function as the light of the world. Yesterday. This lesson stressed that we practise being the light of the world, and asked that we do this throughout the day. This I did, although my blood pressure did go up at certain times when the ego played havoc with with my Christmas day phobia. However, I survived and am ready for more. Today. I have just succeeded in doing the first practice, even though I got up a bit later than expected and now it’s all beginning to feel a bit rushed. I am also aware that this is the way the ego loves to me to be and I (as the decision maker) always have a choice as to how I respond.
You must forgive God’s Son entirely. Or you will keep an image of yourself that is not whole, and will remain afraid to look within and find escape from every idol there. (ACIM, T-30.VI.7:5-6)
Jesus is reminding us that forgiveness is the only way to discover complete peace of mind.
And this is why A Course in Miracles contains the Workbook. Jesus knows that, by applying each lesson practically throughout the day, we can achieve the results that are ours by right.
This means that, beneath the superficial veneer of our supposed identity, there lies a peace so strong that we would rush to it immediately if we had just an inkling that it was there.
Jesus is therefore our guide to a complete and everlasting peace that we have completely lost sight of; and this is not as the historical Jesus but simply the Christ within us all.
Erin Michelle Galito channels Jesus in the video below. Jesus tells us that we are spirit, mind, love and presence. A mind that knows this hears the Holy Spirit and it is forgiveness that gets us there. We have never left Heaven and it is always our choice as to whether we wake up to love’s reality.

63/ Nailed to a Cross

“Change yourself and you have done your part in changing the world.” Paramahansa Yogananda.
Therefore, seek not to change the world, but choose to change your mind about the world. (ACIM, T-21.in.1:7)

Lesson 63. The light of the world brings peace to every mind through my forgiveness. Yesterday. I never quite knew what the term ‘function’ meant in the context of yesterday’s lesson but an online search defines it as “an activity that is natural to or the purpose of a person or thing”. Forgiveness therefore returns us to the ‘activity’ of being our inherent Self, which is the light of the world. Today. This lesson sums up the simple choice between Heaven and hell. It shows us that we are the light of Heaven and not the darkness of an illusory ego. As I did my first extended practice just now, I could get a sense that what I am is what we are.
A Course in Miracles is quite specific. The world we see is merely a projection from the mind. Form does not exist but, since we think it does, then it’s important to change our thinking.
This means a radical shift in perception, in the sense that we need to perceive with a new way of seeing. We want to fully understand that anything related to form means absolutely nothing, in that if we see a body nailed to a cross it is merely symbolic of what is going on within a mind at war.
The beauty of A Course in Miracles is that it gives us a practical solution. The Workbook allows us to heal the split in the mind. It enables the concept of forgiveness to take shape in a way that the decision maker (inhabiting both a mind of fear and a mind of peace) could never have imagined.
True forgiveness will always heal (as opposed to false forgiveness which can only damage). It enables each of us to see the formless face of Christ in all the forms we meet.
A Course in Miracles is therefore a teaching on how to make life endlessly joyful. It gives us a practical solution to a non-existent problem, and the only problem we have is that we believe there are eight billion bodies out there that we ‘think’ could be nailed to a cross.
To heal is to make whole. And what is whole can have no missing parts that have been kept outside. Forgiveness rests on recognizing this, and being glad there cannot be some forms of sickness which the miracle must lack the power to heal. (ACIM, T-30.VI.8:3-5)

64/ Quietness and Gentleness
28th December 2024
“The source of joy is within yourself. Unless and until you seek yourself, you cannot seek God.” Nirmala Srivastava.
God dwells within, and your completion lies in Him. (ACIM, T-29.VII.6:3)

Lesson 64. Let me not forget my function. Yesterday. Part of what we were instructed to repeat was: “I am the means God has appointed for the salvation of the world”. These words already assumed that we are the light of the world, bringing peace to every mind through our forgiveness. In truth, yesterday was a day where I felt more like a body. The ego sent out the words but peace did not come back. Today. I found it very affirming to repeat the three sentences that were given to us as part of the practice. It proves to me that we are so much bigger than this frail little body. As my mind began to quieten, it also seemed to expand as a result.
You are deceived if you believe you want disaster and disunity and pain. Hear not the call for this within yourself. But listen, rather, to the deeper call beyond it that appeals for peace and joy. And all the world will give you joy and peace. (ACIM, T-31.I.11:3-6)
We need to make the mind silent to locate the joy within. Quietness and gentleness are always with us but are drowned out by a voice that is louder and more dominant.
What can we do to change this?
Firstly, we need trust. If A Course in Miracles draws us in from the very first page, one assumes the trust is inherent within us; if it doesn’t, trust has to be developed. Only trust allows us to progress.
Secondly, we must face all our internal guilt. It’s doesn’t work to just dull the ache with some form of suppressant. When we look directly at the pain within, it allows the Holy Spirit to heal the cause.
And thirdly, we have to forgive. This means anyone or anything that we perceive has wronged us. It doesn’t matter who or what or when. Forgiveness looks directly at the problem and then undoes it.
Only through forgiveness can quietness and gentleness arise within us; and it is only by practising the lessons assiduously that we can ever locate a quiet and gentle mind.

65/ Certainty of Oneness
29th December 2024
“Our anxiety does not come from thinking about the future, but from wanting to control it.” Khalil Gibran.
The mind engaged in planning for itself is occupied in setting up control of future happenings. (ACIM, W-135.15:1)
***
Lesson 65. My only function is the one God gave me. Yesterday. The anxiety I always feel in the lead up to Christmas has gone. What, now, should I be worried about? There are a few things but, as suggested at the start of the page, anxiety implies that we are trying to control the future. Today. My function is as the light of the world and knowing this is both salvation and freedom. As I held on to this thought just a few minutes ago, I could sense the truth that surrounds all the rapid-fire thoughts that are disrupting my mind. An analogy might be the light from the sun highlighting all the tiny specks of dust that are caught up in its rays.
How simple is salvation! All it says is what was never true is not true now, and never will be. The impossible has not occurred, and can have no effects. And that is all. (ACIM, T-31.I.1:1-4)
The term ‘salvation’ carries a lot of weight for those who take notice of it. It’s as if we are being saved from something that can punish us. It also seems that it gives us redemption from all the sin that we have perpetrated. And it makes us feel as if God is judging us which, in turn, fosters fear.
A Course in Miracles merely states that salvation is a promise made by God that we will make our way back to Him at last (ACIM, W-pII.2.1:1). This means we will awaken from our (apparent) dream of separation and become fully aware of the fact that nothing has happened.
The Son of God simply forgot to laugh when a thought arose that Heaven could be re-created elsewhere. From this, a dream ensued in which the world was born… except God played no part in it; after all, a dream is just a dream and reality is forever real.
Salvation is therefore the moment when we wake up from the dream, and it is by practising the lessons of the Workbook that we can alleviate the effects of our self-inflicted damnation.
Awakening means the mind has a total awareness of what Is. Heaven is simply the certainty of oneness. This means we either see Heaven completely or we don’t see Heaven at all.

66/ Invitation to God.
30th December 2024
“Do not feel lonely, the entire universe is inside you.” Rumi.
As long as you perceive the body as your reality, so long will you perceive yourself as lonely and deprived. (ACIM, T-15.XI.5:1)
***
Lesson 66. My happiness and my function are one. Yesterday. The instructions for the fifteen minute practice (on the function that God has given us) didn’t make immediate sense, and required some concentration late last night when I was tired. However, I did sense the lesson’s purpose. It was to point out that God is love and there is nothing to fear. Today. The lesson states that we either listen to madness or we hear the truth. Earlier this morning, this had also crossed my mind as I was meditating. I saw how easily the thoughts of the ego join up into thinking, and then realised that beneath my thinking was always the truth. I found this calming.
You never hate your brother for his sins, but only for your own. Whatever form his sins appear to take, it but obscures the fact that you believe them to be yours, and therefore meriting a “just” attack. (ACIM, T-31.III.1:5-6)
A Course in Miracles teaches that the ego always judges; the Holy Spirit can only accept.
Our belief in sin is a judgement of the ego. It is as simple as that. The Holy Spirit does not know of sin but does know that we make mistakes. Our biggest mistake is when we do not know who we are, and we start judging ourselves for it.
The fact is, all mistakes are illusory. Errors are of the ego and their effects can appear to be very concrete and very real. Sometimes our errors seem so big and so awful that the thinker considers killing the body. Dying just seems preferable to living when our thoughts tell us that living is hell.
A Course in Miracles states that we are deluded. We have no idea of the love that God has for us, having completely forgotten that we are a creation of light. The fact is, God does not know of our errors but He does know of our perfection, and it is this perfection that now fears the light.
The purpose of the Workbook is therefore to learn the art of true forgiveness, and it is forgiveness that undoes the error. God didn’t create the world but we did. This means that, if we forgive the mind that made the ego, then we send an invitation to God from a mind that knows it is free of sin.

67/ As Hibernation Ends
31st December 2024
“Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see a shadow.” Helen Keller.
Who dwells with shadows is alone indeed, and loneliness is not the Will of God. (ACIM, T-26.VI.3:1)
***
Lesson 67. Love created me like itself. Yesterday. The lesson told us that our happiness and our function are the same. I wasn’t quite up to speed with looking at the idea every half hour (as instructed) - it probably balanced out at once an hour - but, each time I did, it always felt worthwhile. Today. The purpose of today’s lesson is to let go of false self-images. This means sinking below the ego and sensing the Holy Spirit. I did the extended practice a short time ago and occasionally had to repeat the idea because thoughts kept jumping in. I never got close to the “blazing light” that the lesson describes but I can sense it’s there. This is why I continue.
We will not end this year without the gift our Father promised to His holy Son. We are forgiven now. And we are saved from all the wrath we thought belonged to God, and found it was a dream. (ACIM, W-fl.in.5:1-3)
We are born into the world out of guilt. And it is guilt that establishes the world that we see.
The gift our Father promised to His holy Son (as quoted above) is the release from this guilt. All guilt is undone through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the gift that has been given to us by God.
And, to say that we are forgiven now, means exactly that. According to A Course in Miracles, there is no past and no future. Time does not exist. A new year only occurs in the present moment.
God’s Love is always with us and has never gone away. We become aware of God’s Love as we awaken from our slumber, just as a hedgehog senses spring after hibernating throughout the winter.
We, who all dream of better futures and wish that we were there, should stop our futile thinking. We could imagine the present moment awakening in us now. Until then, we just carry on sleeping.
It’s the middle of winter now and a new year is dawning. Darkness reigns but the light has never gone. We’re like hedgehogs who awaken when the hibernation is over, and like butterflies that flutter when the spring has come.

68/ Happy New Year
1st January 2025
“Love is simply creation’s greatest joy.” Hafez.
Freedom is creation, because it is love. Whom you seek to imprison you do not love. (ACIM, T-8.IV.8:2-3)
***
Lesson 68. Love holds no grievances. Yesterday. The lesson was about love creating like itself. I liked the simplicity of it and it didn’t feel difficult to integrate into my day. However, because we either think with the ego or think with the Holy Spirit, it became clear that the ego was at the front of my mind while the Holy Spirit was nudging me from the back. Today. As the lesson tells us, it’s easy to find a grievance, even with those we see as friends. The ego is manic about grievances and I had plenty to choose from during my first practice earlier. Come to think of it, anything becomes a grievance if it doesn’t arise from pure, unconditional love. The opposite of love is fear, which also means that all grievances have their origins in fear.
A Course in Miracles tells us that what can think has choice, and different thoughts have different consequences. To think with the ego causes pain; to think with the Holy Spirit brings us peace.
We actually never stop making these choices. Our cleverest choice, however, is to chose the holy instant. This is because it is only in the present moment that we find true fulfilment and utter joy.
The body then disappears and the ego is gone. Form cannot exist if there is no guilt to hold on to it. Reality is therefore the only truth the mind can ever know.
Jesus tells us that it is only through relationship that two minds become one, which is Christ’s reality. Jesus also tells us that it is only through our brother that we can have a happy new year!
This is the time in which a new year will soon be born from the time of Christ. I have perfect faith in you to do all that you would accomplish. Nothing will be lacking, and you will make complete and not destroy. Say, then, to your brother:
I give you to the Holy Spirit as part of myself.I know that you will be released, unless I want to use you to imprison myself. In the name of my freedom I choose your release, because I recognize that we will be released together. (ACIM, T-15.XI.10:1-7)

69/ Mystery of Life
2nd January 2025
“If you cannot find peace within yourself, you will never find it anywhere else.” Marvin Gaye.
In shining peace within you is the perfect purity in which you were created. (ACIM, T-13.X.9:4)
***
Lesson 69. My grievances hide the light of the world in me. Yesterday. I have to admit that my notes on yesterday’s lesson were a bit scrawled. I understood them in the morning when I did my first practice but last night everything was a bit blurred. I could have gone to the next room to reference the big blue book but I felt too tired. Clearly this was a grievance in which the ego was complicit. Today. I’ve returned to the first page of the Text again and really connect with what it says about revelation. With that said, it was frustrating to practise today’s lesson and find myself being swept away by great waves of thought. The purpose of the lesson is to go beyond our thinking and reach the light.
It’s a mystery being human. Mankind has been trying to work out its origins over the millennia.
A Course in Miracles does solve the mystery - but only if we are prepared to stick with it. We need to apply ourselves diligently to the art of forgiveness in order for reality to prevail. It’s also clear that the ego won’t let us do this without a fight but it does happen in time.
The near-death experience is another way of gaining some insight into the mystery of life beyond the body, although it is still within dream. The dream only disappears when revelation unites us directly with God (ACIM, T-1.II.1:5). Revelation means an awareness of total unity and oneness.
Consciousness therefore takes place within the dream and revelation releases us from the dream.
And the miracle establishes we dream the dream. It changes our perception from one shaped by the ego to one where we see the mystery of life differently. Love has made the changes instead of fear.
Steve Weber’s near-death experience highlights three important points. Firstly, any event that occurs to us in this lifetime is always a gift; secondly, we don’t need a belief in God in order to find eternal peace when we die; and thirdly, the only reason to be here is to learn that we are love.

70/ Silent Listening
3rd January 2025
“If you judge people, you have no time to love them.” Mother Teresa.
No one who loves can judge, and what he sees is free of condemnation. (ACIM, T-20.VII.9:7)
***
Lesson 70. My salvation comes from me. Yesterday. The introduction to the Workbook tells us that, if we forget about our daily practice, we should never procrastinate when we do remember. This applied to how it was yesterday. I often forgot to repeat the lesson but always got on with it when I did remember. Also, late last night, I felt that my extended practice was ineffectual due to tiredness; however, at least I did it. Today. The lesson tells us that everything we need is within us - nothing exists outside of the mind. Jesus also reminds us that he can lead us through the clouds to the light, stating that this is “no idle fantasy”. So this is what I asked him to do but, when we did reach the light, my thoughts kept drawing me away.
You see the flesh or recognize the spirit. There is no compromise between the two. If one is real the other must be false, for what is real denies its opposite. There is no choice in vision but this one. (ACIM, T-31.VI.1:1-4)
The lesson today reminds us that God would not have put the remedy for sickness where it cannot help. It states that this is the way our minds work but hardly His (ACIM, W-70.3:2-3).
This means that God has placed the remedy directly into the mind, so that it sits alongside our only other option which is the ego. However, God’s remedy is silent while the ego is loud.
A Course in Miracles also tells us that we respond to what we perceive, and as we perceive so we behave (ACIM, T-1.III.6:1). This means that what we do to others is what we do to ourselves.
Therefore, if we want peace we have to act peacefully. It also means that, since God’s remedy is quiet and still, it is crucially important to learn the art of silent listening. This requires practice because we are so unused to having a silent mind.
The Workbook is the first rung up the ladder. After that, all the guilt we feel becomes the fuel that feeds the furnace. As we burn our guilt away through the act of true forgiveness and the art of silent listening, the mind responds and rises away from the ego. It allows us to slowly ascend the ladder, ending up where there is no need for remedies. This is Heaven where there is only eternal peace.
