155/ Dreaming Mind
29th March 2025
“You have power over your mind - not outside events. Realise this and you will find strength.” Marcus Aurelius.
Few appreciate the real power of the mind, and no one remains fully aware of it all the time. (ACIM, T-2.VI.9:3)

Lesson 155. I will step back and let Him lead the way (ACIM, W-155). Yesterday: The lesson was asking me to be grateful - in the sense that it asks us to say “I have the means by which to recognize that I am free”. Did I fully understand what the means was? Methinks not. I was pretty well led by the ego throughout the day, even though I doubt that I realised this at all. It is a crazy world and I was acting crazily. Today: I was about to shave this morning, learning forward as I soaped my face, and all the time my mind was full of negative thoughts when, all of a sudden, a sharp pain in my lower back startled me. The connection between thought and pain became immediately apparent. The lesson today is therefore very poignant.
You cannot enter God’s Presence with the dark companions beside you, but you also cannot enter alone. All your brothers must enter with you, for until you have accepted them you cannot enter. For you cannot understand wholeness unless you are whole, and no part of the Son can be excluded if he would know the Wholeness of his Father. (ACIM, T-11.III.7:8-10)
We are one mind, not separate minds all thinking different things.
The need to heal the mind therefore becomes very clear. The division in the mind is our hurt and it is simply an illusion of being wounded.
The one mind sits quietly within the Mind of God. It is surrounded by love but we are blind to it. Instead, we are dreaming of a separate world and of eyes that looks out onto that world.
The dream is simply an illusion and has no meaning. The only meaning it has stems from fear.
A Course in Miracles therefore brings us back into the present moment. In this moment, all is truth.
No division has ever happened. Only love exists and only the dreaming mind is making love unreal.

156/ Deluded Mind

“The unexamined life is not worth living.” Socrates.
Only the Holy Spirit knows what you need. For He will give you all things that do not block the way to light. (ACIM, T-13.VII.12:1-2)

Lesson 156. I walk with God in perfect holiness (ACIM, W-156). Yesterday: We were asked to step back and let Him (the Holy Spirit) lead the way. In my own mind, the power of thought became very apparent when my back went into spasm early in the morning. I concluded that it was okay to feel the way I was feeling but, when my thoughts do act out and I get drawn in, then I lose all self-awareness. Pain is the inevitable result. Today: Having just read in the text about how God cannot communicate with a guilty mind (the mind of the ego) then this lesson is a good one for me to apply. It’s all about forgiveness. If I get rid of the guilt through forgiveness, then God is able to communicate with me directly.
Never forget that the Sonship is your salvation, for the Sonship is your Self. As God’s creation It is yours, and belonging to you It is His. Your Self does not need salvation, but your mind needs to learn what salvation is. You are not saved from anything, but you are saved for glory. (ACIM, T-11.IV.1:1-4)
Salvation is a guarantee made by God that death can never touch us. Life is all there is and we are fully alive. The Son is immortal and we are the Son.
A Course in Miracles tells us that the Sonship is the sum of all that God created. Everyone of us is a part of that Sonship. When we see our divinity in another, we are really seeing what we are.
Guilt destroys this seeing. Guilt acts as the veil that hides the truth. Guilt doesn’t make us bad; it just means that the mind is being controlled by fear.
If we think we can die or suffer, then we are clearly deluded. A Course in Miracles tells us that the guiltless mind cannot suffer. Guiltlessness simply means we can’t be in pain of any kind.
That is why A Course in Miracles is such a practical course. It teaches forgiveness and forgiveness is the only way we can begin to undo a deluded mind.

“Love bade me welcome, but my soul drew back.” George Herbert.
Love waits on welcome, not on time, and the real world is but your welcome of what always was. (ACIM, T-13.VII.9:7)

Lesson 157. Into His Presence would I enter now (ACIM, W-157). Yesterday: The lesson asked us to walk with God in perfect happiness. It also asked us to question with whom we walk during the day. I did this on a few occasions and it soon became clear that, a lot of the time, I was just walking around with a lot of mental chatter. My mind was on automatic pilot. Today: The lesson reminds us that we have spent long days and nights celebrating death and now it is time to start celebrating life. When the lesson asks us to “step into His presence”, it means the Christ. During my first fifteen-minute practice, I noticed that I kept losing myself in at least two people’s identities, which are those characteristics that I have pushed onto them. I had to keep drawing myself back to the task in hand, which was to see their real Identity, and this is one of total love.
What is healing but the removal of all that stands in the way of knowledge? And how else can one dispel illusions except by looking at them directly, without protecting them? Be not afraid, therefore, for what you will be looking at is the source of fear, and you are beginning to learn that fear is not real. (ACIM, T-11.V.2:1-3)
A Course in Miracles tells us that crucifixion is always the ego’s aim (ACIM, T-14.V.10:6). It sees everyone as guilty and there is no way of skirting around this.
No matter how we dress it up, the ego always needs reassurance. It has to know that it is loved simply to be able to give its love in return. Everything it does is dependent on reciprocation.
We need to look at the ego directly. We need to feel why we distract ourselves continuously from doing this. For example, if we are quiet just for a second, then we probably feel the ego’s menace.
Being present to what is going on in the mind is the purpose of the Workbook. It is to get beyond all our suffering to the endless calm.
Life, then, becomes about the resurrection and not the crucifixion. It means that we don’t damn ourselves but we love ourselves, and it is the knowledge that we do one or the other all of the time.

Lesson 158. Today I learn to give as I receive (ACIM, W-158). Yesterday: It was a Monday and this is when I take a seated yoga class at a local centre. My timer went off ten minutes before the class started and so I remembered to take a peak at the lesson. However, it went off again an hour later because I had forgotten to switch it off. I pretended to scold myself but, the thing was, I still forgot to look at the lesson when the class finished - everyone has a cup of tea and it’s just a social space. I might not have seen the Christ in anyone but I did see their goodness. Today: This lesson is teaching us to see the light in everyone we meet, regardless of how they are acting or what they are saying. This is true holiness and the purpose of the Workbook. Today, I might have some tricky people to interact with and so they are my lessons.
Every brother you meet becomes a witness for Christ or for the ego, depending on what you perceive in him. Everyone convinces you of what you want to perceive, and of the reality of the kingdom you have chosen for your vigilance. Everything you perceive is a witness to the thought system you want to be true. (ACIM, T-11.V.18:1-3)
A Course in Miracles is all about oneness. Anything the mind thinks is just a mistranslation of that.
There is no subject and object. There is just this present moment and, in that, all things are one.
The lesson today reminds us we are one mind within a Mind, and are therefore purely mind. It appears we have done the impossible by thinking we can be bodies, each with a separate mind.
And we also learn that time is a vast illusion and a sleight of hand. Where we are is at the end of the journey reviewing mentally what has gone by. This means we are imagining the world in front of us.
Anything that happens, then, is just a product of our imagination. We are putting a veil over our Self.
However, if we begin to slowly undo the veil through the practice of forgiveness, then the truth within us is revealed. Here, we are the subject because we look around and there is no object.

“The day of my spiritual awakening was the day I saw and knew I saw all things in God and God in all things.” Mechthild of Magdeburg.
The ego would preserve your nightmares, and prevent you from awakening and understanding they are past. (ACIM, T-13.IV.6:6)
***
Lesson 159. I give the miracles I have received (ACIM, W-159). Yesterday: I’d mentioned about meeting some “tricky” people later in the day. This turned out to be not the case at all. I discovered that everything I thought that could happen was all based around my own personal judgements, and this meant my own past experiences. Each of those two people actually turned out to be delightful. Today: Before reading through this lesson, I had already read some of the text which was basically a summary of how the light can’t come to the darkness of the ego; we always have to bring the darkness to the light. I must have read this page a number of times over the years and it always amazes me how my understanding of ACIM slowly deepens (without even realizing it). By the time I got around to the reading the lesson, my mind felt too full to really concentrate. However, I have read it just now, and practised it, and so the day has begun properly.
There is no order of difficulty in miracles because all of God’s Sons are of equal value, and their equality is their oneness. The whole power of God is in every part of Him, and nothing contradictory to His Will is either great or small. What does not exist has no size and no measure. To God all things are possible. And to Christ it is given to be like the Father. (ACIM, T-11.VI.10:5-9)
The lesson today states that the source of all miracles is Christ’s vision. Christ sees no sin in anyone.
We are also told that to give something is always to recognize that we have received it (as opposed to losing what we are giving). It’s another way of saying we are consolidating our truth.
A Course in Miracles is therefore a reminder to see the light in everyone because there is only one light. Since the mind contains an imagined darkness, the Workbook is a way of finding the way out.
And we do this by making peace with the darkness in order to be open to the potential within us.
It is only by being present that we can really know what has never left us. This is not all the thoughts and feelings that establish the darkness. It is a peace so great that is is hard to bear.

160/ Fun or Frantic
3rd April 2025
“Nowness, or the magic of the present moment, is what joins the wisdom of the past with the present.” Chögyam Trungpa.
The shadowy figures from the past are precisely what you must escape. They are not real, and have no hold over you unless you bring them with you. (ACIM, T-13.IV.6:1-2)
***
Lesson 160. I am at home. Fear is the stranger here (ACIM, W-160). Yesterday: The weather is fabulous at the moment with bright blue skies that will apparently continue well into next week. Sunshine is rare in this part of the world, in the sense that the town in which I live has its own microclimate where rain can pour even when it’s cloudy in the surrounding areas. Really though, no matter what the weather is doing outside, the present moment is always bright and sunny; and it is only within the mind that we can know how inclement the weather can sometimes be. Today: The lesson tells us that, if we identify with fear, then it is impossible to identify with our Self. This means that my identity as Mark is really just a smokescreen to cover up what I really am. The fact is, the body always arises out of fear and the Self is purely love.
The world as you perceive it cannot have been created by the Father, for the world is not as you see it. God created only the eternal, and everything you see is perishable. Therefore, there must be another world that you do not see. (ACIM, T-11.VII.1:1-3)
A Course in Miracles states that we have the real world and we have the false world. Both exist within the mind.
It means that however we view the world depends entirely on what we think. We have allowed ourselves to be completely at the mercy of our thoughts.
Life can be fun or it can be frantic. And this is what the near-death experience is also teaching us. It is the reminder that we shouldn’t take everything so seriously and to lighten up if we do.
Natalie Sudman’s near-death experience showed her that life is not what we think it is. We are not the body and neither are we the character - we are spirit. She makes a comparison to watching a movie. We might be thoroughly immersed in the plot but, at the end, we all get up and walk away.

161/ Love in Action
4th April 2025
“There is no higher happiness than peace.” Jack Kornfield.
Who can perceive part of himself as loathsome, and live within himself in peace? (ACIM, T-15.XI.4:7)

Lesson 161. Give me your blessing, holy Son of God (ACIM, W-161). Yesterday: The lesson told us that, if we identify with fear, then we are a stranger to our Self. It implied that we are always at home (at peace) and fear is simply a stranger that we have invited into our minds. This was a beautiful lesson to practise because what it was asking me to repeat throughout the day just seemed so understandable and so obvious. Today: The lesson asks us to pick one person and to send them a Christ blessing. Immediately, my mind was drawn to one particular person that I like but it then occurred to me that maybe I should pick a person that I don’t like - someone who I had begun to think about the day before and someone who I considered to have done me a great injustice. And so I have just spent fifteen minutes doing just that, and my heart feels lighter.
The Kingdom of Heaven is within you. Believe that the truth is in me, for I know that it is in you. God’s Sons have nothing they do not share. Ask for truth of any Son of God, and you have asked it of me. Not one of us but has the answer in him, to give to anyone who asks it of him. (ACIM, T-11.VIII.8:3-7)
A Course in Miracles is such a beautiful read. It appears complex and detailed but, when we understand it fully, our hearts melt and we become one.
Really, A Course in Miracles is all about love but we are reading it from a mind that is bound by fear.
The Atonement is a word that comes loaded with fear. However, within the context of A Course in Miracles, the Atonement is described as being gentle - we are told we just have to whisper its name and it rushes to our assistance and supports us (ACIM, T-14.IX.3:2). This is love in action.
What stops this happening, then, is our guilt. We truly believe we are not worthy of God’s Love. This means we are killing ourselves with our thoughts.
Our guilt is absolute nonsense. It just needs to be whittled away through the process of forgiveness and it is then that we will really find what love in action actually means.

162/ Mind Is Alive
5th April 2025
“Just as a candle cannot burn without fire, man cannot live without a spiritual life.” Buddha.
You are the work of God, and His work is wholly lovable and wholly loving. (ACIM, T-1.III.2:3)
***
Lesson 162. I am as God created me (ACIM, W-162). Yesterday: The lesson asked us to pick a brother and to send him/her a Christ blessing that was unconditional in its love. It wanted us to see that person as perfect and sinless - in other words, one brother is all brothers and every mind is all minds. This means that it doesn’t matter if we love someone or we hate someone, we are all exactly the same. Today: This lesson felt very easy to apply for my first extended practice. It shows us that some of our thoughts are holy but most aren’t, and our thoughts can shift and change in many different ways. God, though, is completely impartial in His outpouring of love. Receiving God’s Love doesn’t require any thinking and it just comes at us directly with no limit at all.
This is a very simple course. Perhaps you do not feel you need a course which, in the end, teaches that only reality is true. But do you believe it? When you perceive the real world, you will recognize that you did not believe it. Yet the swiftness with which your new and only real perception will be translated into knowledge will leave you but an instant to realize that this alone is true. (ACIM, T-11.VIII.1:1-5)
A Course in Miracles tells us that the end of the world is not its destruction, but its translation into Heaven. Heaven and earth become one because there is only One.
Perception becomes knowledge because God is all-knowing. We don’t need to make anything up. Everything is with us, all around us and is us.
We are life but we have made up a life that is hell. This means suffering and pain. Hell is anything that is not love and it is everything that is not peace.
Within the context of having a body - which is just a symbol of a concrete form of fear - our goal is always to see the real world. This is when hell disappears and we see the world as Heaven instead.
The body remains only to communicate peace. What we are is now fully alive, and not dull and dead.

163/ Lifting the Veil
6th April 2025
“To speak gratitude is courteous and pleasant, to enact gratitude is generous and noble, but to live gratitude is to touch heaven.” Johannes A. Gaertner.
You are the Kingdom of Heaven, but you have let the belief in darkness enter your mind and so you need a new light. (ACIM, T-5.II.4:1)

Lesson 163. There is no death. The Son of God is free (ACIM, W-163). Yesterday: The lesson was simple and easy to remember - “I am as God created me”. The lesson stated that these words were sacred, in that they came from God as an answer to the world we have made. And the fact that they say “I am” indicates (in my mind) that we are all one with Love. Today: This, for me, is probably the ultimate meditation. Having just read through the lesson, and having practised it as well, it is clear that all of my fears stem from one single fear of death. It feels completely embedded in my psyche and I know that I cover it up in a thousand different ways.
Understand that you do not respond to anything directly, but to your interpretation of it. Your interpretation thus becomes the justification for the response. That is why analyzing the motives of others is hazardous to you. If you decide that someone is really trying to attack you or desert you or enslave you, you will respond as if he had actually done so, having made his error real to you. (ACIM, T-12.I.1:4-7)
A Course in Miracles tells us that to interpret error is to give it power, and this means we overlook the truth.
The truth needs no embellishment. There is no need to search for it. Truth just is and it never was.
All we have to do is to get past the mis-truth of the ego. This is the veil that blinds us to reality. The ego is not a thing or an entity, it is merely a thought. A thought is ephemeral and has no meaning.
We undo this thought through forgiveness. We essentially have to laugh at all of our thoughts and not take them seriously. It’s a bit like riding on the ghost train when we’ve become an adult - it’s still fun but it’s also a bit pathetic if we become terrified.
By lifting the veil we find our truth. It is not a big explosion of lights with bands playing. Our truth is just the certainty that we are peaceful along with the utter knowledge that we can be nothing else.

164/ Mind Is Witness
7th April 2025
“What drains your spirit drains your body. What fuels your spirit fuels your body.” Caroline Myss.
When your body and your ego and your dreams are gone, you will know that you will last forever. (ACIM, T-6.V-A.1:1)
***
Lesson 164. Now we are one with Him Who is our Source (ACIM, W-164). Yesterday: This lesson was easy to repeat throughout the day (there is no death and the Son of God is free) but I can’t say I actually feel this at the core of my being. The fear of death, and what happens to me after I die, has been at the back of my mind for as long as I can remember and, in many ways, it still is. At least many aspects of that anxiety (to date) have faded but I could never say I am peaceful about dying. Today: What I read in the text earlier, and what I have just read in today’s lesson, really relate to the same thing. Both were about being in the holy instant (or the present moment). When I was lying in bed in the early hours of this morning, and maybe for the first time in my life, I was able to identify an inner fury that has always been with me. Since it could never exist outside of time, I feel that to be fully present with this fury has to be the whole purpose of my practice.
Learn to be quiet in the midst or turmoil, for quietness is the end of strife and this is the journey to peace. Look straight at every image that rises to delay you, for the goal is inevitable because it is eternal. The goal of love is but your right, and it belongs to you despite your dreams. (ACIM, T-12.II.5:5-7)
We need to look at all our deepest fears and not to shirk away from anything. We can’t do this alone but we can do it with the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is the peace in our minds. Peace doesn’t get fazed by tax returns or the destruction of the body. Peace only knows peace. It can’t know anything else.
The body has nothing to do with that peace - in fact the body is a container of fear within the mind. When we are asked to go within to find the Source of peace, we only have to look past our thoughts.
A Course in Miracles tells us time and time again that we are not the body. What we are is boundless and infinite, and free of any limitations.
Peace just requires a witness and it is only the mind that can be that witness.

165/ The Shining Sun
8th April 2025
“The most beautiful people we have known are those who have known defeat, known suffering, known struggle, known loss, and have found a way out of the depths.” Elisabeth Kübler-Ross.
To believe that a Son of God can be sick is to believe that part of God can suffer. (ACIM, T-10.III.3:1)
***
Lesson 165. Let not my mind deny the Thought of God (ACIM, W-165). Yesterday: The lesson asked us to put everything aside (that we think we need) and become one with God. That was the gist of the lesson. My mind was ticking over for most of the day, meaning I was in and out of the lesson, and I only remembered to do my final practice just before I went to sleep (usually I like to do it around 7pm). Reflecting back, I now feel slightly irritated with myself. Today: This irritation probably came through when I got up this morning. I was rubbing some oil into my right heel when my lower back went into spasm - not a good way to start the day. And this is where the lesson proves that, beneath all the mental chatter and continuous judgements that my mind is making, there always is always the Thought of God. This is what created us and I find this hugely reassuring.
You have projected outward what is antagonistic to what is inward, and therefore you would have to perceive it this way. That is why you must realize that your hatred is in your mind and not outside it before you can get rid of it; and why you must get rid of it before you can perceive the world as it really is. (ACIM, T-12.III.7:9-10)
A Course in Miracles tells us that the real world and the false world are within the mind. Everything we see is just a manifestation of what we think.
The real world is a world in which our inner peace shines outwards onto the world we see. The mind is not judging anything. Judgement is only required when we think we need to make a choice.
The choice is always to be happy or unhappy, delighted or disgusted. If we see duality as arising and falling, then it is clear that everything around us will arise and fall and eventually die.
The false world means death. Everything - bodies, buildings, trees - will always eventually fall and disappear into the ground. We soon learn that what the physical eyes see can never last.
And this fear-based thinking arises from the ego. It is bound in time by horrendous guilt. However, the undoing of guilt invites in peace and, as peace becomes a constant, it shines like the sun.

166/ What We Are
9th April 2025
“The soul is placed in the body like a rough diamond and must be polished, or the lustre of it will never appear.” Daniel Defoe.
The Holy Spirit knows that you both have everything and are everything. (ACIM, T-4.III.9:5)
***
Lesson 166. I am entrusted with the gifts of God (ACIM, W-166). Yesterday: My second extended meditation seemed to go on forever - for fifteen minutes precisely - and the theme was “let not my mind deny the Thought of God”. Basically, I was hungry and I was wondering if I had forgotten to set the timer on my phone. By the end of the meditation, I was doing everything I could to deny the Thought of God. Today: This lesson shows us the paradox of life. It tells us that we have everything but we think we are nothing; it reminds us that God did not make the world but we did. And, as I practised the lesson just a short while ago, there was a real sense of an expanded sense of Self as opposed to the little self that I have made up.
Each day, each hour and minute, even each second, you are deciding between the crucifixion and the resurrection; between the ego and the Holy Spirit. The ego is the choice for guilt; the Holy Spirit the choice for guiltlessness. The power of decision is all that is yours. (ACIM, T-14.III.4:1-3)
A Course in Miracles tells us that it is impossible to find a connection between truth and illusion. Both are total opposites and they can never be reconciled.
We therefore need to appreciate that we are either guilty or guiltless, bound or free, unhappy or happy. One is a choice and the other is simply the truth.
The truth is transparently obvious. It needs no elaboration. It is around us all the time.
And the mistake is to think we have to search for it. Truth is only found by becoming still. We need to have a mind at peace.
Therefore, we are not directed to gaze up or around or down. We are simply asked to go within.
The reality of what we are is far beyond thought; it is infinitely greater than any words. What we are is full and alive and unlimited by any imaginings; we are the holy Son of God.

167/ Sleeping Mind
10th April 2025
“Happy people build their inner world; unhappy people blame their outer world.” Dalai Lama.
If you would look within you would see only the Atonement, shining in quiet and in peace upon the altar to you Father. (ACIM, T-13.IX.7:6)
***
Lesson 167. There is one life, and that I share with God (ACIM, W-167). Yesterday: The lesson was a reminder that we are entrusted with the gifts of God. It is a simple statement of fact. The fact is, if I contemplated my physical life in this very moment, I would realise that I have absolutely everything I could wish for. To me, these are the gifts of God… and the weather is also glorious. There is something about the start of spring that lifts the heart. Today: This lesson tells us that life is truth. Life is all there is, and it is not something that stops as we go along. We share life and life is what we are. This means there is no death because the opposite of life does not exist. The lesson says that what appears to die is merely a sign that the mind is asleep.
This is an insane world, and do not underestimate the extent of its insanity. There is no area of your perception that it has not touched, and your dream is sacred to you. That is why God placed the Holy Spirit in you, where you placed the dream. (ACIM, T-14.I.2:6-8)
A Course in Miracles is telling us that we are sleeping soundly, but we are really awake.
We are loved totally but we are dreaming we aren’t.
And there is absolutely nothing to worry about. We only need to be aware of why it is we worry.
The near-death experience proves all of the above. It is an awakening moment for a sleeping mind.
Jeff Olsen’s near-death experience proves that God’s Love is boundless, eternal and totally all-encompassing. God knows everything about us and gives unconditionally. It was when Jeff lost his young son and wife in a car crash that God showed him clearly how much He loves us all as One.

168/ Love Can’t Die
11th April 2025
“Realise deeply that the present moment is all you have. Make the now the primary focus of your life.” Eckhart Tolle.
The holy instant thus becomes a lesson in how to hold all of your brothers in your mind, experiencing not loss but completion. (ACIM, T-15.VI.5:5)
***
Lesson 168. Your grace is given me. I claim it now (ACIM, W-168). Yesterday: The lesson was a reminder that there is one life and it is this that we share with God. Personally, I see the fragility of life all around me. I am staying with my mother and, in the context of form hiding the formless, it included everyone we met at the local supermarket and everyone who passed us by in the local town. I was an extension of her life as she walked along beside me with two sticks. Today: I felt the difference between the conceptualized sense of self who is internally repeating the words of today’s lesson, and the vast I amness that stands apart and simply witnesses. When the little Mark disappears, I feel that a huge magnificence just takes its place.
The guiltless and the guilty are totally incapable of understanding one another. Each perceives the other as like himself, making both unable to communicate, because each sees the other unlike the way he sees himself. God can communicate only to the Holy Spirit in your mind, because only He shares the knowledge of what you are with God. (ACIM, T-14.IV.10:1-3)
A Course in Miracles tells us that the guiltless mind cannot suffer.
A Course in Miracles asks us to be love because love is what we are.
A Course in Miracles teaches us to see spirit everywhere, knowing that fear has nowhere to hide.
Therefore, in order to have a mind at peace, we need to undo the pain that gets in the way. We need to follow the prompts which includes forgiving ourselves if we don’t achieve any of the above.
A mind at peace knows only the Holy Spirit. There is no contrariness or dysfunction. A mind at peace can only be open and expansive like the sky.
Love then expands and touches everything. Peace means being fully aware that love can never die.
